This stage of a saiyans transformation is the most basic. This is the stage all saiyans are born in. In this stage the most noticeable thing is that they have a brown tail. This tail gives them the power to transform into Oozaru Mode under a full moon, but is not needed for transformation into SSJ.
In this stage, a lot of transformations take place. The hair stands strait up and becomes a very golden color. The power increase is enormous, ranging from 150-1000%! Their eyes turn blue and they lose their pupils. They move extremily quickly. This stage is only supposed to be reached by those with royal saiyan blood.
Not many changes take place in this transformation, and it's hard to tell the difference between this stage and SSJ1. The biggest giveaway that it is SSJ2 though, is if there is electric bolts surrounding the Saiyan. The hair also becomes slightly longer and styled slightly different. The increase in power isn't that much though.
The change here is very noticeable. The hair grows very long and loses its ability to stand strait up. The Saiyan also may look slightly different in appearance and facial expression. Only Goku and Gotenks reach this stage. The power increase is nearly double for Goku, but for Gotenks, the increase is about 250%.
This stage is only reached in DragonBall AF. I don't know much about this stage, except that I think Goku is the only one to reach it. This picture I have found out, is an actual picture from DBAF.
