The 2005 Saab 9-2X is based on the Impreza from GM partner Subaru. While most sheetmetal remains unchanged from the Impreza, the 9-2X features a distinctly Saab front end design with integrated hood intake for the engine intercooler. "As the new 9-2X range is tremendously fun to drive and since we are targeting a young and enthusiastic customer, we decided to express the strong and dynamic character of the 9-2X in its design and even add a bit more of an aggressive touch compared to the rest of our line-up," comments Saab's Executive Director of Design, Michael Mauer. The drivetrain remains unchanged, with a base 2.5L flat four, WRX-shared 2.0L turbo flat four, and a choice of five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. With standard full-time all-wheel-drive, the 9-2X is a unique and early offering in a car segment just emerging in the American market: the premium sports compact segment. The 9-2X will go on sale in sedan and wagon forms in July 2004.

The 9-3 Sport-Hatch is a crossover hatchback and wagon concept which Saab plan to bring to the market within the next two years. Based on the recently launched 9-3, the styling follows themes from last year�s 9-3X concept including the short rear overhang, steeply raked backlight and glass roof with integrated bike carrier. As a unique Scandinavian touch, the vertical LED taillamps, masked by clear covers, are said to resemble frosted blocks of ice.

Inside, the design is based on 9-3 architecture but introduces a new 'clear zone' transparent material through the centre of the cabin, covering the instrument panel, console and between the two separate rear seats. Concluding this �transparency� theme, the trunk features a see-through stowage floor.

Continuing the biggest product offensive in its history, Saab Automobile AB announces its latest new model and first sport utility vehicle, the 2005 Saab 9-7X. Featuring standard all-wheel-drive and two engine choices, the mid-size SUV will fill Saab's need for an entry is this rapidly growing market segment. The Saab 9-7X will make its world debut at the 2004 New York Auto Show in April, 2004, and will go on sale about one year later. Initially, the 9-7X will be produced specifically for the United States and Canadian markets.
