I entered their visitors center and was greeted by an elderly couple. He asked me to sit down and he was going to explain to me about two stones he had in a glass case. These stones were markers Joseph Smith used to map out the four corners of the temple that was going to be built for the gathering of the saints in the last days. This temple was never built due the problems the Mormons encountered with the local people. Two of these markers were uncovered during excavation.
The first one has scratched on it the number 4 backwards (to distinguish between the number 9), followed by 0W. This meant 40 feet west from the center. The other stone had similar markings on it. They were etched by Joseph Smith.
They believe that they're the only group that has remained true to the original teachings of Joseph Smith. Here is a brief history of their religion.
