The Glorious Gospel Light Has Shone

Verse 1

The glorious gospel light has shone

In this the latter day

With such intelligence that none

From truth need turn away.

Verse 2

The precious things which had been sealed

And from the world kept hid,

The Lord has to his Saints revealed

As anciently he did.

Verse 3

And thru the priesthood now restored

Again prepared the way

Thru which the dead may hear his word

And all his laws obey.

Verse 4

As Christ to spirits went to preach

Who were to prison led,

So many Saints have gone to teach

The gospel to the dead.

Verse 5

And we for them can be baptized,

Yes, for our friends most dear,

That they can with the just be raised

When Gabriel's trump they hear;

Verse 6

That they may come with Christ again

When he to earth descends,

A thousand years with him to reign.

And with their earthy friends.

Verses 7 - 8

High on the Mountain Top

Verse 1

High on the mountain top

A banner is unfurled.

Ye nations now look up;

It waves to all the world.

In Deseret's sweet, peaceful land,

On Zion's mount behold it stand!

Verse 2

For God remembers still

His promise made of old

That he on Zion's hill

Truth's standard would unfold!

Her light should there attract the gaze

Of all the world in latter days.

Verse 3

His house shall there be reared,

His glory to display,

And people shall be heard

In distant lands to say:

We'll now go up and serve the Lord,

Obey his truth and learn his word.

Verse 4

For there we shall be taught

The law that will go forth,

With truth and wisdom fraught,

To govern all the earth.

Forever there his ways we'll tread,

And save ourselves with all our dead.

Verses 5 - 6

How Beautiful Thy Temples, Lord

Verse 1

How beautiful thy temples, Lord!

Each one a sacred shrine,

Where faithful Saints, with one accord,

Engage in work divine.

How beautiful some aid to give

To dear ones we call dead,

But who indeed as spirits live;

They've only gone ahead.

Verse 2

How beautiful thy message, Lord,

The gospel, pure and true,

In these our days to earth restored

And taught to men anew.

How beautiful its faith and hope;

All mankind it would save,

Including in its aim and scope

The souls beyond the grave.

Verse 3

How beautiful thy promise, Lord,

That we may grow in truth,

And live, exalted by thy word,

In endless, glorious youth.

With loved ones sealed in holiness

By sacred temple rites,

Worlds without end we may progress

From heights to greater heights.

Holy Temples on Mount Zion

Verse 1

Holy temples on Mount Zion

In a lofty splendor shine,

Avenues to exaltation,

Symbols of a love divine.

And their kindly portals beckon

To serenity and prayer,

Valiant children of the promise,

Pledged to sacred service there.

Verse 2

Merciful and gracious Father,

Purify our hearts, we pray;

Bless our mission of redemption

In thy hallowed house each day,

Till at length our faithful kindred,

Sealed with us eternally

In celestial bonds of union,

Sing hosannas unto thee.

Verse 3

Sing aloud, ye heavenly chorus,

Anthems of eternal praise

To the glorious King Immanuel!

Sing with Saints of latter days!

Let the mountains shout for gladness,

And the valleys joyful be,

While the stars acclaim in rapture,

For the prisoners shall go free.

Rejoice, Ye Saints of Latter-days

Rejoice, ye Saints of latter days;

Lift up your hearts in song of praise;

Another temple to our God

Now stands on this chosen sod,

A house of holiness and love

To him who sits enthroned above.

Verse 2

Again is reared from earth's deep sod

A temple to the Most High god;

A house of prayer, a place of peace,

Where envy, hate, and greed will cease,

Where men will serve unselfishly

Their kindred dead and set them free.

Verse 3

Oh, work-men, rear it tenderly

In perfect form and symetry.

Let love be in this holy place;

Let no crude act or word efface

This sacred edifice of prayer;

Oh, build it true with utmost care.

Verse 4

Oh, Saints, rejoice in this great day

And worship him in his own way,

For thus his kingdom will go forth

Until his temples fill the earth;

Then will the heavens sing above,

And Christ descend to reign in love.
