The women's relief society is the longest continually functioning women's organization in the United States. Each Sunday a different "theme" is addressed and they run somewhat parallel to the priesthood lessons.
The first Sunday of the month is Spiritual Living, in which gospel teachings are discussed with applications in their lives. There's a 10 minute period allowed at the end of each lesson for women to share their testimonies with each other.
The second Sunday is Home and Family Education in which teaching is done from a lesson plan and mothers, grandmothers, and prospective mothers, how to teach, learn and live gospel principles in the home.
The third Sunday is Social Relations and Compassionate Service. the women address subjects involving the home and the Church. Service to others is stressed through living by the doctrine of the chruch and performing missionary work through example to nonmembers.
The fourth Sunday is Home Management. The subjects addressed range from personal grooming, to 'making the home a refuge from the world' for the family.
On one evening each month (usually a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) the relief society meets for a homemaking meeting. Usually a snack or meal is prepared, with lessons varying on subjects from gardening, self defense, cooking skills, sewing skills and other varied subjects.
This is from the book 'Meet The Mormons' put out by the Mormon Church:
This is an organization devoted among other things to developing better wives and mothers, building and maintaining better homes, carrying out a program of theological and cultural training among its members, and helping minister to the needs of the poor and the sick.
Members of the organization meet weekly for periods of instruction in the social science, literary, and religious fields. They also carry out regular projects in quilt making, sewing, cooking, and other arts and crafts helpful to wives and mothers.
