Missionary work brings friendships. If you want to secure the friendship and affections of our friends, go to work and comfort them with that light which you have received, remembering those blessings came down from God, and that by doing this you are only doing what every man should do.

Those of you who have got the priesthood, go and make friends among the individuals by whom you are surrounded; or select one and try to start his feelings, his faith, his circumstances, and his mind, and try to enlighten them, and if they are sinners, endeavor to save them from their sins, and bring them from their bondage in which they are placed, to participate in the light and liberty which you participate in, for in this way you can do good through the information which the Lord has imparted to you. In this way you will discover that their minds will be drawn out towards you, and their affections will be gained and centered upon you.

Our members need to understand their responsibility to do missionary work and then do it. I fully endorse the words of President Spencer W. Kimball: "Do we really believe in revelation? Then why cannot we accept fully as the revealed word of God the revelation of the Prophet- President David O. McKay, wherein he brought to the Church and to the world this valuable Church slogan, 'Every member a missionary'? How else could the Lord expect to perform His work except through the Saints who have covenanted to serve Him? You and I have made such a covenant. Will we honor our sacred covenant?

Never have we had the opportunity which we have today to get our message before the world. Almost all over the world the Church is well-spoken of. Never has it been so easy to get a gospel conversation. Never has the Christian world been weaker than it is today. Never has there been a need, such a great need, for what we have. We must share the gospel with others. That is our responsibility -- every member a missionary. That is the call of prophets of God.

We desire all potential members to be friendshipped. Our youth should be involved in missionary work. Some of our finest converts come through the young people of the Church. We hope that home teachers are working closely with part-member families to see that the gospel is taught to the nonmembers in that household.

I am thinking of the missionary work, and there are numerous people in the retired group who do and could give much of their energies and time in a selfless proselyting effort to bring souls unto Christ, the greatest service. There may be some limitation on the foreign, " away from home" missionary work, but almost no limit to the missionary service that could be performed in one's own community with one's own neighbors in one's own time.
