Elders are ministers of Christ; they are called to administer in spiritual things, "To teach, expound, exhort, baptize, and watch over the church; And to confirm the church by the laying on of the hands, and the giving of the Holy Ghost. ... The elders are to conduct the meetings as they are led by the Holy Ghost, according to the commandments and revelations of God." They are to preach the gospel, teach from the scriptures, administer to the sick; function in the church court system, and perform any duty that can be done by a holder of the lesser priesthood.
