Joseph Smith gave a speech to the Mormon newspaper 'Times and Seasons'. In it he stated "First, God himself, who sits enthroned in yonder heavens, is a man like unto one of yourselfs, that is the great secret."

Mormon belief holds that God has a wife and together they procreate in heaven to supply Earth with its children.
Brigham Young (second prophet):
"Now remember from this time forth and for ever, Jesus Christ was not begotten by the Holy Ghost."

He further stated that "The birth of the Saviour was as natural as are the births of our children: it was the result of natural action. He partook of flesh and blood -- was begotten of his Father, as we were of our fathers."

I've found one other statement by Brigham Young. This was delivered on April 9, 1852 in the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City. "...remember from this time forth, and for ever, Jesus Christ was not begotten by the Holy Ghost. I will repeat a little anecdote. I was in conversation with a certain learned professor upon the subject, when I replied, to this idea --- 'if the Son was begotten by the Holy Ghost, it would be very dangerous to baptize and confirm females, and give the Holy Ghost to them, lest he should beget children, to be palmed upon the Elders by the people, bringing the Elders into great difficulties.' "

I've heard this doctrine a few times growing up but the people I asked seemed uncomfortable discussing it. I was even told that that belief was mistranslated from Brigham Young.
But the (6th) prophet Joseph Fielding Smith was very explicit on the subject.
This belief continues to be taught.
