When Apple released the Machintosh Plus back in 1986, this started a revolution in the computer world as well as it set the design standard of future Macs to come.
The Macintosh Plus started my computer career. I was six or seven years when I first used my fathers Plus. The time I spent with the Plus was the happiest time I've ever experienced with a computer, primarly because it almost never broke down. But it was not a computer, it was something more, it was a family member.
The flexibility, the sharp B/W screen and it's huge amount of RAM and all the things it could be used for i.e. writing, playing games, DTP and much more made it the killer computer that it were. And the killer computer we still think it is.

Processor Motorola MC 68000 running at approximatly 8 Mhz.
Memory Delivered with 1 MB, but can be upgraded to 4 MB. Has four SIMM-slots with 30-pins which recieves with a speed of 150 ns (nano seconds). Must be upgraded with two SIMMs at a time.
Storage capability Internal 800k disk drive. Has SCSI-port for connecting a harddrive and a port for using an external diskdrive.
Screen Built in 9" B/W screen with a resolution of 512x324 pixels. The Macintosh Plus can not be connected to external screens.
Communications Built in LocalTalk through the serial Printer port. Also has a Modem port but that only offers 57 600 bps with handshaking on the output, not on the input. The serial port can only handle 9600 bps* and offers no support for Geoport.
System Requires system 3.2, and can be used with Mac OS 7.5.5.
Connection ports The Plus was the last Mac with keyboard attached via coiled telephone-like cable, and thelast Mac with mouse attached via DB-9 connector, but first Mac with DIN-8 serial ports. And one other feature was important: the Plus was the first Mac with SCSI, using DB-25 connector on back of computer, but this connection was pretty slow.
RAM 1 MB, expandable to 4 MB using pairs of 256 KB or 1 MB 150ns 30-pin SIMMs (memory upgrade requires clipping one or two resistors; cannot use two-chip 1 MB SIMMs). On a Plus When 1MB SIMMs are installed, the 256KB resistor must be clipped to enable recognition of the higher density SIMMs.
ROM 128kb
PRAM battery 4.5V #523
Gestalt ID 4
Addressing 24-bit only
Weight 16.5 lb
8 kg
Size (HxWxD) 13.6" x 9.6" x 10.9"
34,5cm x 24,4cm x 27,7cm
Performance 0.8 (relative to SE); 0.7 MIPS
Upgrade although I heard you could upgrade it by putting an SE motherboard in it ( by making it fit ), It would be pointless due to the fact it wouldn't be a Mac Plus anymore ( - Zack ) estimated current value, base unit: US$15
Introduced Jan 16 1986 at a retail price of: $2 600
Lifetime The Mac Plus was produced in 4 years and 10 month, Apple's longest lived Macintosh.
Terminated Oct 15 1990
* Serial Port on a Plus is limited to 9600 only when heavy Appletalk is occuring. If you are not on an appletalk network, then you can use your modem at 19600 bps easily. If you're appletalking on the other port though, 9600 is probably the best you will get.
