     A reunion for non-recent staff members of Makemie Woods Summer Camp is scheduled for August 26-28, 2005, with the main "event" to take place on Saturday, August 27th.  Any staff member who served on a staff at least 10 years prior to the reunion is invited.  Makemie Woods already holds an annual staff reunion, but it is typically only attended by staff from the last two to three years.

     The idea for this reunion was born over Memorial Day Weekend 2004, as Pete Schoenhoff, Holly (Bernard) Schoenhoff, and Jim Pritchard looked through some old staff photo albums.  The director, Michelle "Mike" Burcher, suggested that it would be fun to get the older counselors - from years prior to her involvement with the camp in 1992 - to come back to the camp for a reunion.
     Although a small subset of the staff years are shown on this page, this reunion is for all staff between 1964 and 1995.  If you were a staff member for a year which is not included on this site, we'd love to add your year, but we need your help!  See this link for details.
     Also keep in mind that even if you cannot come to the reunion, you're still welcome to add your contact information so that you can connect with old friends.
 

     Makemie Woods is holding a "Pig Pickin'" (BBQing a whole pig) on Sept 5 this year.  This is fairly soon!  Obviously there is not time to make this a reunion, but it may turn out to be a good opportunity to reconnect with a few old friends, pick up some steam for the reunion, and find some people who may know how to contact staff we've not yet found.  I hope we can even get some people to head up some of the staff years not currently covered. 
     See this link at Makemie's site for details about the Pick Pickin' weekend.  You are free to attend the event on Sept. 5 from 2:00pm to 7:00pm, but if you with to stay for all or part of the weekend, you need to submit a form to Makemie.  Forms are here and here, and Makemie's phone number is (800) 566-1496.  Warning: The forms are big PDF files, and may take a long time to download if you don't have a fast Internet connection. 
 

     We currently only have a few years listed on this site, because:

• This reunion thing is just getting started,
• We're not sure who was on staff in other years, because we didn't work there then.
• We don't have staff pictures for those years, because we didn't work there then.
• Even if we knew who to contact for those years, they'd probably ignore any email I sent, because they don't know me.

• Send your contact information so we can add it to the page.  Even if your year does not have a central photo, we can still list you and your year.  That might encourage someone else to speak up.
• Become a "host" for the year(s) you were on staff.  If you have an idea where a few of your fellow staff members might be, then you can probably help in this capacity.  At first, we only had about 5 contacts, and now we have leads on somewhere between 50% and 75% of the staff from our years at Makemie.  Friends seem to bring more friends more quickly than you'd think.  If you are interested in helping in this capacity, then contact the webmaster.  We can use help in
• Finding old staff photos for missing years
• Identifying names/faces of unknown staff members (names highlighted in red in the photo area)
• Calling, writing, emailing staff from those years
• Maintaining info on staff members who have been located, and sending that info back to the webmaster, so that it can be added to this site.  This is most easily done via a spreadsheet I can share with you, but anything will work.

     To add your information, email the following to the webmaster:

• Your name
• The year(s) you worked on staff
• Your current home address and phone #
• Your current email
• Chat IDs (like MSN, AOL IM, Yahoo, ICQ, etc.)  - optional
• A personal website link, if you have one.  - optional.
• A brief life-update to share.
• The names of any other staff who worked at Makemie during your year(s), who are not listed on our site yet.

1. What's with the funky email address format?

You may have noticed an unusual looking email format in the contact section of this site.  For example, my email address looks like this: pschoenvt.edu.  The strange looking curly symbol is meant to represent the @ symbol, and is used to defeat spiders.  (No, not the big brown ones we had to fight at camp.)  There are special programs, called spiders, which can search websites looking for email addresses.  When one is found, it is added to a central list, so that the person who owns the program can either send you spam email or sell your address to other companies who will send you spam.  Those spider programs look for text in the format   "someName@some.domain".  By using our funky graphic symbol instead of the @, we're preventing spammers from getting your email address - at least from us.  If you email someone on this page, copy their address as it appears on our page, but replace our funky symbol with the regular @ sign.
 
2. Why are you stopping at 1995?

Recent staff already seem to attend the regular annual reunion at Makemie.  Also, older alumni tend to have a somewhat different perspective than more recent staff members.  In order to appeal to older staff, we had to make it specifically an older staff reunion, and we had to put the cutoff somewhere.  10 years just seemed like a good, round cutoff point.
