News Archive for January 2002
This database excludes Pictures included on the main
page...
30th January 2002:
The Central Line public demo one has been released over at
John's CentralSim
Site - One well worth a download. We've been following this
through the Beta, and every time we get a new version, it gets better!
We're also waiting on the converted GLUG into the Circle Line - No appearance
of this yet, but if anything happens, we'll let you know!
Having a few problems with the Beck, but nothing a bit of time and elbow
grease won't sort out... or a more competent knowledge of BVE RW
files. ;)
28th January 2002:
The excellent Bakerloo Line
route extension between Queens Park and Harrow and Wealdstone has now been
released at Train Sim
Central. Pop along and download another great LUL BVE Route.
David R Coleman has also let us know that work on the Jubilee
Line Extension part two is coming on well now!
It also seems we have a Circle Line
based on Robert Glass's Glasgow Underground, but when this will be
released is anyone's guess.
Just playing on an excellent Doom Wad file of The London
Underground. I reccommend you download it if you still have Doom - Click
here to be taken to Billy Hall's site for the download.
Also added a map of 'The Beck Line' in
true tube format (like you see on the track side of the Platform at tube
stations). Excellent, created by Alex. Take a look.
26th January 2002:
A lot of behind the scenes stuff is happening at the moment - with
regards to BVE projects. The Beck line is coming on a treat and
along with Alex, it's starting to get a character of it's own... how
nice. :) It looks like we may have to wait a little
longer for the Chelney, as Kings Line
Creator David McCormick's computer has fallen victim to a virus...
have no fear - David has a back-up, but the BVE community will have to
wait slightly longer for the Chelney.
BECK LINE
NEWS: I'd like to say a big thanks to Alex, who has
continued to provide support and advice while we work on 'The Beck
Line'. Thanks Alex :) The amount of planning and effort
Alex has put in is amazing... and I thought doing the route would be
difficult! ;) And while writing this very paragraph, I've once
again been left speechless, and there is a graphic I'm hoping I can share
with you soon! It's amazing!
If I manage to get onto the computer on Sunday, I will release all the
Information I am allowed regarding both the The Beck Line, The Bakerloo Extension
Beta Test, and much much more. LUL BVE is back in business after a
very slow week - and I'm in an unusually happy mood!
Have a great weekend to everyone who visits the site! :)
24th January 2002:
The Holborn to Croydon route will form part of 'The Beck Line',
named after Tube Map creator Harry Beck. Suggested by route
co-creator Alex Farlie.
There seems to be very little LUL BVE news of late, but as soon as we get
some here at 'The London Tube', we'll let you know! ;) Incidentally,
it turns out I share my Birthday with Zoë from Eastenders (in the show,
that is, I have no idea of her real Birthday)... 7th February - You'll
have to excuse the lack of updates around this time, but alcohol does
strange things to a person, does it not? ;)
Keep emailing us: the_london_tube@yahoo.co.uk
- I try to reply to every email I get. Also, watch out for
Victoria Line Northbound 2 - Coming Soon!
23rd January 2002:
The Aldwych Extension to Croydon has begun to take shape as you
can see from the two screenshots below. Screenshot one shows the
Cross Over just outside Holborn with links to the Piccadilly Main line and
Holborn Platform 4 - Directly ahead you see Platform 5. Screenshot
two shows the section of track before Aldwych - originally designed for
Platforms one and two, this section now serves as the cross over for, once
again, main line Piccadilly trains but also with the Aldwych Extension to
Elephant and Castle (left branch), also available for download on this
site.
ALDWYCH EXTENSION MK II-
Holborn to Croydon
[SCREENSHOT 1] - Now available from the Beck
Line page.
[SCREENSHOT 2] - Now available from the Beck
Line page.
20th January 2002:
UPDATED: Sacha
Dodd has released his Victoria Line
route, now avalible to download. Visit the 'Victoria
Line' page for more information. John Owen has also given
the biggest Indication that the Central Line
is nearing part completion in the Crotrainz Forum.
16th January 2002:
I received an interesting email from Mark Ovenden recently, about
names for the Chelsea - Hackney route.
Mark suggests the names "Chackney" (although he does point
out it sounds more like someone coughing up phlegm!) or The "Hellsea"
Line. Mark also suggests "Maybe we could take a 'leaf' out of
Prince Harry's book and call it the "Marijuana" line!" -
Very trendy!
On the BVE front, there isn't that much to report, but if you want to Beta
Test the latest BVE routes, then shoot over to the Beta Test Zone sign-up
page - You must have read the Terms and Conditions before you join though!
:) Have fun - keep emailing. I enjoy reading them and
try my very hardest to reply to them all.
SITE NEWS: I will be moving the site off Geocities in the
next few weeks. The website is now being hosted on several different
servers to test reliability, etc, and as soon as we make our decision
about where the site is moving too, we will let you know, and release
patch's for all our routes with the then incorrect URL on station
advertising.
15th January 2002:
The Beta Test Zone is now
active and ready for sign up's! - Click
here to sign up now!
14th January 2002:
Quick Visit to the Victoria Line page
will reveal that the route is become a joint project. One between
myself, Robert Hull and John Owen - As with his Hammersmith
& City route, I was once again left speechless at the amount
of time Robert put into the Victoria Line northbound. John (Central
Line) has also given a considerable amount of time to re-coding
the RW file. I'm going to run a few more things past the two of
them, but hopefully, the route should be up to version 2 in a few days,
and it's all thanks to these two guys - So the London Tube honor of the
day goes to Robert Hull and John Owen. The latest BVE news and
information tomorrow when I'm able to get online for longer.
12th January 2002:
Updated a Screenshot on the Chelsea -
Hackney page. (It now shows the (currently non-existent)
National Rail Junction at Chelsea Harbour, and the dive into tunnel).
Also - the Beta Test Zone is almost with us and the MySql database is
finally (hopefully) being set up now as we speak! Still - Tomorrow
is a new day in the world of 'The Tube' and LUL BVE.
Special mention is going to Steve Green today as his site, Train
Sim Central is second in line producing 29% of visits after
'Directly Accessed Hits' which is clocking up 50.9% of all hits.
Thanks Steve. :)
10th January 2002:
Your in for a real treat today people! Loads of screenshots
of new and coming routes. If you pop over to the Chelsea
- Hackney pages, you'll find some screenshots that David sent
earlier today - I think you'll agree that they are very impressive!
Another lot of impressive screenshots, this take taken from Sacha's
Southbound Victoria Line route,
which should be available by the end of the week.
Don't forget to keep those emails coming into 'The London Tube', the email
address, as always, is the_london_tube@yahoo.co.uk
Staying on all things graphical, I've created several new graphics for
routes that are available now or coming soon including the Hammersmith
& City and The Bakerloo. I would just like to say that neither
of these routes have anything to do with 'The London Tube', but I just
felt like giving them some publicity on the site. One I will take
credit for, along with Alex, is the one you can see on your right now -
The Aldwych Extension phase two is coming soon! In fact, work is
about to begin now... after I upload this very page.
Also added a new title banner to the top of the page so people can see
what the site is and what it's about much easier. Note the really
bad LUL Style pun, "Taking the Central Line...". Sorry...
had to be done. :)
9th January 2002:
Had the pleasure of riding the Victoria Line
southbound today. :) And then Sacha's Northbound route.
Sacha has put a lot of effort into the ATO Train along with Nathan.
Added the Chelsea - Hackney (Chelney,
Kings Line, whatever you wish to call it) pages to the site after a lot of
promising. This looks like another brilliant route heading our way.
As soon as 'The London Tube' gets anymore info to publish, I'll let you
know. :) Also, watch out for some important changes
coming soon to 'The London Tube'.
8th January 2002:
The new look, "anyone can join" Beta Test Zone is proving
far more difficult to implicate than I had first imagined. Just to
let everyone know - The Beta Test Zone will be open to sign-ups soon.
"Watch This Space", as they say!
NEWS FLASH:
I've also just tried out the up and coming Hammersmith
and City Line route... I'm Speechless! Utterly Speechless!
This is one route that I'm very much looking forward to seeing completed.
It's amazing, and while not yet entirely finished, the work that Robert
Hull has put in is second to none. The class of the output that he
has put in is amazing and I have no problem in telling you that this route
and indeed, it's author, will be among the greats of Steve
Green and Keith Hazelton (Northern Line), John
Owen (Central Line) and David Coleman
(Jubilee Line) and Paul Jobber (Bakerloo
Line)!
I also corrected a download fault with the Aldwych Extension. Thanks
to Richard for spotting that one! :)
7th January 2002:
Well - everyone is hard at work on the Victoria Line now... everyone
except me. As you can probably imagine, I've had enough of the Vic
at the moment - but John Owen and Robert
Hull are making amazing progress on both the RW file and the
station graphics! I've put a screenshot of the improved RW file with
a sneek peek at the station graphics on The Victoria
Line page.
4th January 2002:
Well, it seems that a work in progress has had to be suspended -
Robert Hull's Hammersmith and City Line route has been put on the back
burner. This is a shame, as if you take a look at the H&C
Page you'll see what we are missing out on! Anyone who
thinks they can help Robert complete the route, then please contact him
(email address on the H&C Page) as I personally would like to see this
route released.
I've also added the original Aldwych Extension in it's original
form back to the Piccadilly Line
pages due to popular demand.
3rd January 2002:
Well, the site Stats are in... 1612 people visited this site in
December 2001, 41.6% of you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and
59.13% of you have a screen resolution of 1024x768. 25% of you found
this site using Google by typing 'BVE Underground' and 30.3% of you link
from an unknown source! :) Most of you are using Windows 98,
and our top 10 reefers can now be found listed on the left hand side of
the page - and we want to say a big thanks to you as well for sending
people our way. Thanks everyone! :)
2nd January 2002:
Happy New Year all! I've been informed by Yahoo! Geocities
that it's time to move on from their server as the site is exceeding the
bandwidth quota. I was overjoyed when I read this email as I never
thought that the site would become so popular, so I will shell out the
money and get a new .com or .co.uk Domain for the site. Thanks to
Everyone for making the site what it is today! :) And
to thank you all, there will be a new route released soon - The Aldwych
Extension Two! From Holborn to Croydon in association with Alex
Farlie. More news to follow soon. Thanks to all who have
supported the site in 2001 and I wish you all the best in 2002!
Email me if you have any "scoops":
