Shields and Weapons

I cannot say which weapons are the best ones since it changes from combat to combat...
An excellent long range missle would do you great against a slow long-ranged enemy, while it will be useless against a fast enouth short-ranged ship which the missle wont catch up with.
Its best to arm yourself with one long ranged weapon, and either one short range or one medium range weapon.

Shields

Structural Gluon Shield An energy field that forms a gluon matrix by infusing itself within a ship's hull. It affords minimal shield protection.

Electron Matrix Shield An electron matrix that surrounds a ship. It affords adequate shield protection against the rigors of space travel.

Proton Matrix Shield A proton matrix bubble that completely surrounds a starship. It affords robust shield protection in most combat situations.

Temporal Flux Shield A powerful energy field that surrounds a starship with an anti-time flux. It affords optimum shield protection.

Impaler Missile Rack With its medium range capability, high speed and mass, the guided impaler is designed to rupture vulnerable low grade starship hulls. Fission Missile Rack A medium range guided tactical missile that delivers a 20 kiloton plutonium fission explosion on impact. Fusion Rocket Launcher A small and fast medium range tactical missile that delivers a 10 megaton hydrogen fusion warhead. Multi-Missile Launcher An advanced long range guided tactical missile that delivers multiple 10 megaton hydrogen fusion warheads. Fission Torpedo Pod A long range tactical torpedo that delivers a 50 kiloton plutonium fission explosion on impact. Explosive Shell Chaingun A super-cooled short range rapid fire machine gun that fires explosive armor penetrating shells. A weapon of such destructive magnitude could only be conceived by mad scientists. Laser Beam A short range tactical weapon that emits a thin beam of searing laser light. Electron Accelerator Gun A short range tactical weapon that emits a sparkling beam of charged particles. Also called a lightning gun. Proton Phasor Beam An advanced prototype short range weapon which emits a writhing beam of matter-rending protons. Positron Scrambler Beam A large medium range tactical weapon that rapidly rotates emitting a helical beam of atom-annihilating antimatter energy. Tachyon Ray Gun A large medium range tactical weapon that emits a devastating translucent beam of hypercharged tachyons. Graviton Disintegrator A highly advanced medium range demolition beamer which emits a gyrating stream of graviton particles. There is no known defense against this frighteningly powerful weapon.
