I am cursed. Bad luck follows me wherever I go. First Darnoc, now here.
It seems that the Padavisians like having their town in shambles.
I respect their desire to keep the Olde Ways, but the town's growing too fast.
No town council? No mayor? No organized militia! Fine, let the buyer beware, but punish those who would harm the buyer.
We may as well rename this place Hell if the criminals keep at it...
My hands are tied (and I'm sure the local thieves would love that to happen (especially that Tessay!)).
Am I just ineffectual? People and things keep disappearing, and when I go out to look for them, I come back and things are even worse.
Have I done the right thing in coming here?
But I wonder: did the rebels in Darnoc need me if I was going to be an ineffectual lieutenant in their movement? The gods' know I can't solve a problem in this flea-speck burg (I can't even catch a rat!), so how in Sariloth's name could I hope to organize a revolt in a town where there's something real at stake?
I may never know unless I go back.
And I can't leave until I prove that I can do some good around here.
I just hope I don't get nibbled up by rats in the meantime.

Prime Hildebrand drunk. Wandered into graveyard; was assaulted by evil creatures.
Bar fight. Again. Three wounded, one dead, and one mirror broken.
Jorl Sebrinak abducted in night. Goblins suspected.
2 - Bandit raid on merchant from South. Everything lost. Merchant scarred, but appeased by Riddenbutter's Righteous Ale at the Glass Sparrow.

Vakirin robbed. No leads and no real surprise in my mind.
Glass Sparrow Inn vandalized. Mrs. Riddenbutter would not file complaint.
Gave warning to Birket Stonewheel: singing love songs to self too loudly
late at night. (note: watch him... seems like he may snap)
4 - Bar fight. Noon time. Started by a drunken Hildebrand. Dunked him
twice in Kotay River for punishment.
Cheryl Danby abducted. No leads. Bandits? Goblins?
Bar fight. Mid day. One dead, five wounded, one badly pinched bar
maid.
Hildebrand found drunk in Granary.
Bar fight. Late at night. Three dead, five wounded.
Shadow creature spotted by child under bed. True or false?

Priestess cast another charm to dissuade them.
Calm otherwise.
Oh... Hildebrand drunk.

gates. Eric forbidden to enter Padavis again.

Reminders:
Whatever happened to Jorl Sebrinak? Cheryl Danby?
Who would loot graveyard?
Dark Elves? Out here? Investigate.
With more undead being spotted, could the Wizard be back from dead?
Who is Keyser Sose?
Would capital punishment be effective in Padavis? -discuss with Mrs. R., Moon Priestess, and Peddlar

Help!
...lost our comrades in the frozen tundras to the north.
We are running low on rations... half my family dead...
...Please! Curse those damn Stones...
Field notes of Kwarrel and his Adventures:
There is a secret door hidden somewhere in the lowest level of the Sorcerers Lair, in his office chamber.
Behind it lies wealth and magic beyond belief!
I will find it if it kills me.
Damn those Undead! They are so hard to kill! Good thing I found the spell of Vanquish Graveborn.
With this spell, they drop like flies.
Fish.
Fish, I need more blind fish.
Damn, wish I knew where that blind fish cave is.
Krone the misrable
These here be the last words of Krone the Miserable, as mishapen a lump of flesh and hair as you'd ever want to see.
I've decided that I'm tired of spending this life as a prisoner in this fleshly chamber.
No longer will I be bound to this earth by the weight of these bones.
In my dreams, I can fly. I soar and swoop and dip and roll as carelessly as a bird. I know I could do that when I'm awake if I could only get rid of this body.
It is said that in the Overworld, people can zoom from place to place in the blinking of an eye -- and the Overworld can be reached while in the body.
Think how much more quickly I could move without this accursed frame.
I'm going to jump off the highest cliff I can find.
On the way down, it is my intention to fly out of my body on the way down, and allow my body to be destroyed on the rocks below, so my spirit will have nothing to return to.
Then, I will be free to fly around all of Farr -- all over the universe, if I so desire.
I will be free.
Last Words
Let these be my last words. With no human ears to hear them, I hope you'll take my words with you.
My story is this: we were returning from Pentere when goblin bandits fell upon us.
They came in waves, overwhelming us easily.
Our party's survivors were brought here.
They were all killed: tortured. I escaped, but not without cost…
But the goblins are not the threat I speak of.
There is a terrible evil in the Old Palace in Bilton.
It sapped our strength the moment we stepped in the room with it.
It is a stone like none I have ever seen. Beautiful. So cold. I feel that it could be taking the strength of the land. It's causing the Blight!
My gut has run red for hours and I lose strength.
I hear the snorts and grunts of my captors more often now.
I know the end is near.
Reader, take this knowledge. Guard it with your life and fly to a hero who may do a great deed to end this Blight.
If you don't, who will?
Diary of Captain Gelbard:
...Success! Jolly and I have just defeated the Royal Palace in Darnok.
Aye, 'twas a glorious victory, pillaging and plundering those rich foolhearty Nobles!
Jolly was
exceptionally brutal, slicing and dicing with no mercy at all; men, women and children.
In the end,
yes, we did find the Sacred Emerald Crown, which we had sought.
After our celebration tonight, we plan to set sail in the early morning for coastal caves of Maldavith...
Diary of Nimdok, the Great Flute Musician
HA HA! Those fools in Padavis!
I will continue to infest their pathetic town with rats until the day I die!
How dare they hire Egarsh to play at the Festival of the Moon Temple!
Hee hee hee... So I will continue my scam of 'ridding the rats' with my musical talents, and keep collecting money from Sheriff Dighton!
BATTLE FERVOR Spell Scroll:
The writings of Eterius describe this spell best:
'... and as the spell was cast, the eyes and soul of the warrior burned as with fire, and he fought with the strength of a man possessed ...'
Kaidar's Mission I
How great Sariloth is. My mission will be to bring order.
The Un-named shall be cleansed of chaos and taint.
A stone of great power was entrusted to me.
Kaidar's Mission II
Another stone of great power was entrusted to me, for Maldavith.
Morgalla's a fool; she snoops and causes trouble with the Artificers.
Other wizards will see the light of my power.
Only Sartian himself could wrest the power from me... I've made sure of that!
What is making Kaidar so very strong now?
I've put up with him long
enough, but how to overcome him?
Maybe this will work...no. Maybe that
will work...no.
Aha, I'm onto something. He's made an ally. It's an energy
thingy. Drain it, how?
Chaos, that's it... What? Aha; dear, dead, Sartian can
help me.
Expedition Log
Day 1 - Set off. Passed through forest elf community in cover of night. Confronted by elvish patrol, lost two scouts in battle. We gave the four of them no mercy. Proceeded North to Wildevarr. At daybreak, camped in the hills south of the Goblin Village.
Day 2- Met with Goblin Chieftain at sundown. Their language is so gutteral, I have trouble remembering his name. The simpleton was delighted by Kaidar's gift. He pledged support, and offered beads of friendship. We've nothing to fear from him or his rag-tag band of mongrels. Shiny trinkets will appease them enough to do our bidding. They may be effective enough to keep the humans of Padavis from venturing South, though. Humans are often TOO curious. Slept on their uncomfortable beds at daybreak. Already I long for my dark elvish caves...
Day 3- At sundown, observed community of Padavis. The people are quiet and listless - seemingly drained of their souls. Sariloth was right, perhaps they don't need a Tapstone. The undead in the area are troublesome, however. Kaidar's wards were helpful, but a mage was slain by a wraith's touch. Unfortunate. We burned him to stop him from rising the next night.
We had only five of us going into Jovanc. We camped in the surrounding trees during the sunlight hours.
Day 4- Managed to sneak into Jovanc. Kaidar's guess was correct -- it's haunted. If Lord Jovanc walks undead, our gift would mean nothing. This will be a lost cause. Since death has also greeted two more scouts, we've fled to the Western Hills to re-group. My two companions are broken, wanting to turn back. We all, even Kaidar, look forward to the safety of our underground caves. Hethrallin seems so far away now.
