News
This Saturday, March 15th, Cinderford Town are without a fixture in the Dr Martens Western Division, and so 13 Town players have been selected from the squad of 17 to represent the Gloucestershire F.A. against the Channel Islanders GUERNSEY. The game is being held at Oaklands Park, Almondsbury, kick off 3 p.m., and so Town fans will not have far to travel to basically see their team in action this weekend. The 4 non-Town players in the squad are Keith Knight and Gareth Hopkins from Cirencester Town, and Dave Nash and Mike Sherman from Sharpness.
The 13 Town players named are: Andy Fisher, Tommy Callinan, Paul Donnelly, Marc Richards, Lee Burby, Leigh Hall, Clayton Hook, Jamie Hammonds, Damien Edwards, Simon Truman, Scott Griffin, Tom Phillips and Leigh White. Darryl Addis could not be considered as he is a contract player at the Causeway.
NEW DATE FOR AWAY GAME AT BROMSGROVE: Tuesday March 18th.
NEW DATE FOR CITY GAME:
The twice postponed game against Gloucester City has been re-arranged for APRIL 8th at Meadow Park, Gloucester.
FORMER PLAYER IMPRESSES GOULD
Having made his Division Two debut at Huddersfield on Feb 15th., 18 year old David Bird, who played for Cinderford Town Youth and then Town's Dr Martens side before signing for Cheltenham Town, came on at half time on Feb 22nd in the home game against Colchester. In the after match interview on Radio Gloucestershire, Cheltenham manager, Bobby Gould, gave a glowing reference to young Bird.

CINDERFORD TOWN 2 SHEPSHED DYNAMO 3
A very poor performance for home supporters to endure against a side third from bottom who have picked up 6 points from us this season. All this after an excellent win at Solihull last Saturday. Town sneaked a 1-0 lead at half time when Marc Richards pounced on a loose ball in the box to drive home. Shepshed played some good football on a heavy playing surface, and Town didn't. It was as simple as that. It came as no surprise when Shepshed equalised, and the writing was on the wall when they got their noses in front. With the game in the final stages, Shepshed made it 3 -1, and the loyal Town fans on the north bank drifted away, totally frustrated by an inept display. A late goal from young striker Julian Addis was not enought to earn a point, and Tuesday night's game at Meadow Park looks like revenge night for City unless Tommy can get this team back out of the doldrums.
Tuesday November 19th GLOS SENIOR CUP
BRISTOL ROVERS 3 CINDERFORD TOWN 2
A narrow defeat for the Town against a strong, skilful Rovers team fielding 6 of their first team squad, which included all four of their first choice midfield. Rovers started strongly, moving the ball swiftly and accurately on a superb playing surface at the Memorial Stadium. It came as no real surprise when they took an early lead, and it was the defensive skills of Jason Hoskins and Jason Donovan which helped keep the Town in it. Although chances were more limited at the other end, Scott Griffin, and Darryl Addis in particular, kept the Rovers defence on their toes. Rovers increased their lead just after the start of the second half, but Town came back strongly and started to look more of an equal match for their opponents. In fact, as the half wore on, Town seemed to grow in confidence, and were desperately unlucky when a Scott Griffin free kick from just outside the box hammered against the crossbar with the keeper beaten. Darryl Addis was in superb form - his pace and control must have impressed the Rovers staff. Although Darryl is having a lean time in front of goal, his contribution to the side is without question, and it was his trickery which set up Simon Truman to reduce the deficit with a fine shot into the net from an acute angle. With ten minutes to go, a beautiful curving cross from Simon Truman was forced into the net by Scott Griffin to level the scores. When it looked like extra time was imminent, Rovers raced away and scored a last minute winner to ensure their passage into the semi-finals.

CINDERFORD TOWN 1 MERTHYR TYDFIL 1
An exciting game at The Causeway ended all square, although Merthyr supporters will be wondering how they squandered chance after chance, yet the home side's fewer chances could have won the game. Merthyr were particularly guilty in the first half, coupled with some excellent defending by the home side, who were inspired by a superb display from goalkeeper Andy Fisher. He is, without doubt one of the best keepers in the Division. The first half ended 0-0, and supporters from both sides had hardly left the Clubhouse when Town took the lead. Jason Donovan flicking the ball gently past Neil Thomas in the Merthyr goal. Town had more of the game in the second half, with strikers Darryl Addis and Lee Brown keeping the Merthyr defence on their toes. Brown was an early substitution for Scott Griffin in the game. Griffin sustained a nasty cut to the leg after a tussle with former Town player Jason Price. It wasn't until 10 minutes from the end that Merthyr got their equaliser. 16 year old Town defender Tom Price, who had had a solid game, tried to play the ball out, but lost possession, and gangly striker Cortez Belle slotted the ball into the corner of the net. Both sides had chances to win it in the closing minutes. Lee Brown saw his angled shot just zip past the far post, and Merthyr did virtually the same at the other end. All in all, a very entertaining game, watched by a good sized crowd. Merthyr brought plenty of support, and it was good to see everyone enjoying the football, on a warm, sunny autumn afternoon.

TONY HOPKINS SACKED
Cinderford Town Football Club have terminated Tony Hopkins' position as Manager.
His replacement is former Assistant Manager Tommy Callinan, who left the club several weeks ago after disagreements with Hopkins. His first game in charge will be this Saturday when Town are at home to Merthyr Tydfil in the Dr Martens League. Callinan played for Cinderford as a striker in the Hellenic League back in the early nineties, and has had considerable experience since then as a player in the Conference at Forest Green, and as a player, and then Manager at local rivals Gloucester City. His first job will be to try and stabilise his team, several of whom have not seen eye to eye with Tony Hopkins in recent weeks. The biggest concern has been Hopkins' release of midfielder Chris Bale, a firm favourite with Town supporters, and it can only be hoped that Callinan will be able to pursuade him to return. Comments in the Forum have indicated an interest by Merthyr in the player.
If you have any thoughts on the above, why not air your views in the Town Forum.

COMINGS AND GOINGS:
LYNDON TOMKINS joins Adie Harris at City - Local boy Lyndon, who was Town Captain last season, has disappointed many people at the Club by signing for local rivals Gloucester City. However, his departure has been tempered somewhat by the return of Jason Hoskins, who has impressed in pre-season.
Manager Tony Hopkins has signed SCOTT GRIFFIN from Salisbury City. Scott formerly played for County rivals Cirencester Town, and Clevedon Town. LEE RELISH has re-signed for Town, apparently to take over the left back berth of Player/Manager Tony Hopkins. One player moving from the Causeway is Town favourite ADIE HARRIS. Adie is having a final fling at former club Gloucester City. Adie's age has always been a talking point, and it's fair to say he's no spring chicken anymore, but he has been a wonderful player at our Club, for quite a few seasons, and we wish him well back at Meadow Park. What a superb player - thanks for the memories Adie !
UNDER 18's
This year the Under 18's will be managed by former Town player CHRIS PARSONS. Chris is also involved with Ross Town, and it is hoped that further links can be forged between the two clubs.

NEW STADIUM FOR CINDERFORD TOWN GETS TOWN COUNCIL APPROVAL.
Cinderford town councillors last night approved in principle, outline plans submitted by the Football Club for a new Stadium Complex at Steam Mills, on the northern edge of the town. The site is adjacent to the A4151, the main road in and out of the town, and is currently only used for Sunday League football. The outline plan is for a new Football Stadium equipped to Dr Martens Premier Division standard, but with the ability to upgrade to Conference requirements. Alongside the new Stadium will be a full size floodlit astroturf pitch for training, and for other community uses. A new children's play area is proposed, and the Clubhouse within the football club will be multi-use to provide first class facilities for functions etc. for the people of Cinderford and District.
With the support of the Town Council, Football Club officials will be looking to turn the outline plans into a comprehensive scheme to submit to the local Planning Authority. The funding of the project will come from the sale of the existing ground, "The Causeway", and hopefully a successful bid for grant aid. In an inteview with the local evening newspaper, Town Chairman Ashley Saunders pointed out that there was still a lot of work to be done to ensure the scheme becomes reality, and he envisaged it would take at least two years. This news page will report all developments as they happen.
