What Are We Going To Do About All The Cats!

Please Click here First !

We would like to establish a small No Kill shelter for abandon, abused, and unwanted cats. These cats are exposed to many dangers and suffer through disease and severe weather conditions.

The shelter is to harbour and hopefully socialize the abandoned and feral cats that cannot be cared for and to eventually find homes for them. Some may have to live their lives at the shelter, but statistically this would be a small percentage.

The project has a program incorporated into the mandate of the shelter called

`Trap Neuter and Release`

Acquiring a reputation in the United States and several cities in Canada, the successful program is to help municipalities, cities and towns control the feral cat population without eliminating the cats.

Recognized by the Canadian Humane Society, the idea is to take care of the ones that are in your yards and alleyways now, to help control the population and discourage newcomers from moving in. They would be trapped, fixed and given the necessary shots for disease, then returned to where they came from.

We already have Two area Veterinarians that are supporting this project.

The Idea of the project is to CONTROL - NOT ELIMINATE the feral cat population and help those who help them. We could help capture the cats if you cannot and build small shelters for the severe weather during the winter (if landowners permit) and more….

Morin Heights does have a fairly large feral cat population. For several reasons: No control as the cost to maintain these cats are high, indifference and abandonment. Picking up cats does not fall under the responsibilities of the SPCA nor The SPCM. The only way you can deal with the cats is to capture them and bring them in yourself, where you pay a fee to have them destroyed or put up for adoption - Adoption is usually NOT an option with a feral cat.

There are many wonderful people in Morin Heights that help where they can, but that is limited and largely due to the fact that trying to help does become a little overwhelming with the multiplying feral cat population.

So enough said and we appreciate the time you have given us and ask for a little bit more to send us a note, with your Name, Telephone number, and if you support our idea. If you would like to help in anyway, we would appreciate hearing from you also.
