Policies and
Procedures
Absences:
Whenever your child is going to be absent for any reason, you must
call the office, email or sent in a note. We will gladly collect their
work to be completed upon their return. When a child is frequently absent or regularly being picked up
early and/or coming in late, it disrupts the flow of their kindergarten
experience. They quickly becoming overwhelmed, confused and feel
disconnected from the group when they return to school.
Behavior Form:
Behavior Form will be in the Behavior/Homework Folder. Each week I
will record the number of times your child flipped a card. Students
that stay on green will receive a smiley face. If there is an A, it
stands for absent. If there is an X, there was no school that
day.
Birthdays: Your child’s special day is important to us. We do many
things to recognize birthdays in class; hats, new pencils, stickers, and sitting
in the "birthday chair." Parents are also invited to come in that day and read or
do a special project with the class. If you would like me to allot
some time for you, please write me a note a few days before your
child’s birthday.
Classroom Schedule: Please click on the picture to view.
Clothing: We
will be painting, coloring, playing, and experimenting. Please send children in
appropriate clothing for these activities. Children also go outside for recess
every day, so they need to wear comfortable
clothing and sneakers for playing.. It is very important that they
dress for the weather.
Dress: They spend much of their day sitting on the
carpet, so clothing that does not hinder this is best. Girls with short skirts
have difficulty when we sit on the carpet, therefore a skort or long skirt is
best. We will be going outside everyday. Please note in your handbook that students must wear
shirts that cover their shoulders and shorts that come past their finger tips.
Sleeveless shirts are fine but NO SPAGHETTI STRAPS or OPEN BACK shirts.
Email: Please feel free to email me anytime with
questions or concerns. I check my email in the morning before school and after school. My email address is
brendastone@hotmail.com.
Homework: The Behavior/Homework
Folder is where you will find your child's homework. Homework is a very important part of your
child’s education. It provides extra practice on the skills we have learned in
class, teaches responsibility, improves fine motor skills and allows you to see
what your child is learning in class. Homework should be completed every night
and returned the following day in the appropriate folder. They should be able
to do the assignment on their own, but it is okay for you to go over the
directions with them. ALL homework should have your child’s name and date on the top of the assignment. If an assignment is to be
colored, I expect it to be colored using “real world” colors (no green or blue
people). Coloring is a terrific way to develop fine motor skills. Homework
should take no more than 30 minutes to complete, if that. This includes nightly
reading. THERE IS NO HOMEWORK ON FRIDAYS, OTHER THAN READING.
Lions Folders: Your child's
Lions Folder is very important. All
communication from the school, PTO and school work will be coming home in this folder. It
is extremely important that everything is removed and reviewed on Monday evening.
The folder should be sent back empty on Tuesday morning.
Lunch Procedures:
When you send in money for lunch, please place it in an envelop with the child's
name and teacher's name. Make sure the envelop is sealed. The student of the week will take the envelopes to the
office each morning. Menus are
handed out at the beginning of each month.
Marble Jars: As you have probably heard, each of
your students is on a team for marbles. The teams change every nine weeks.
They also name their team each nine weeks. The students earn marbles throughout the week for showing good
citizenship and following directions. Marbles are also taken away when
rules are broken. On Fridays, the teams count their marbles. The team with
the most marbles gets to go to the treasure box!
Notes: If you are sending a note to me with your child, please
remind them before they leave that there is a note for Mrs. Stone in their
Lions Folder or Behavior/Homework Folder. Please understand that I cannot, and will not, release a child to
anyone other than a parent unless I have a note from you. If you have someone
that will pick up your child on a regular basis, you may write me a note for the
year so that I may release your child to this person at any time. All
others, please send a note on that morning. Keep in mind that notes that cover
more than one day; (i.e.- "John's grandmother will pick him up the second Tuesday
of every month," or "...his babysitter will pick him up on Mondays and
Wednesdays") are very confusing for the child and the teacher, especially
if there is a substitute teacher in the classroom at dismissal time. If you
forget to send a note, or have a change of plans for the day, please call the
office and let them know that someone other than yourself will be picking up
your child. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
Parent Helpers: What would I do without parent helpers?? There are
many
opportunities to be involved in our classroom. If you are interested just let me
know.
Reading: Please read for at least 20
minutes each night. You may read to them, but encourage them to read or sound
out any shorter words or words they should know.
Returned School Work: All of the work your child does in school
during the week, as well as their corrected homework, will be sent home in their
Lions Folder. I do not send any work home during the week. The reason for this
is that I want you to see, all at once, the work that your child has done
throughout the entire week. I feel that if pieces come home randomly throughout
the week, and you're looking at them in isolation, it is hard to get a global
picture of how they are doing academically. If the entire week's work is
reviewed all together, you are able to get a better feel for the objectives that
were covered, the progression in which it was taught and how your child
performed overall during the week. Every piece of work that comes home should
have some indication that I have seen it, i.e.; comments, stickers, stamps, check
marks, etc. If there is nothing from me on a piece of work, it means that I have
not seen it and it should be returned to school as soon as possible. Thank you!
Scholastic Book Orders: I will be sending home
scholastic book orders. If you are interested in ordering books, please make
checks out to Scholastic Books. Scholastic offers great books at super deals
and is a great way to earn free books for the classroom. This is not affiliated with our school in any way and is completely
optional.
Snack: Your child should bring
a HEALTHY snack to school
each day. We will have a morning snack break. If you would like a list of snack suggestions, please see the
Healthy Snack Ideas section of this site. The children are very upset when
they forget their snacks. Please help your child to check for their snacks each
morning before they leave.
Specials: Specials
are on a rotation schedule.
Toys: Please
remind your child that we are very busy, therefore they are not
permitted to bring any toys to school.
Treasure box prizes are to be put immediately in their book bags.
Thank you.
Treasure Box:
Dollar Store items showing good behavior, citizenship, or any positive behavior.
Website: Our class website is
http://wind.prohosting.com/bstone38. Please
check the website frequently for updates and news.
Weekly Newsletter: Each Monday I will send our class weekly
newsletter. You can look to this newsletter to update
you on the skills we will be covering in class that week for each subject.
It will include a reminder list of the spelling words for the week as well
as announcements, up coming events and school and classroom news.
Are there other policies you would like to see here? Please email me and
let me know what I have left out! Thank you!
