Alford heads to Yeovil - 30/06/01

Yeovil Town Football Club today announced the signing of striker Carl Alford from Doncaster Rovers FC for an undisclosed fee on a two year contract.

Alford who has been the subject of record transfers in the past is looking forward to the new challenge at Yeovil and also reuniting with his former Kettering manager Gary Johnson who sold him to Rushden and Diamonds in 1997 for a then non-league record of £85,000.

Gary says, "There are not a million strikers of the 20-30 goals a season calibre available and with Carl I have signed a player that I know I can get the best out of. He has not been at his most prolific for the last two seasons but he will be moving to the area and is ready for the challenge that Yeovil Town represents." Alford will join the squad for training on Friday when he returns from holiday.

Boro Boss off to Lilleshall - 28/06/01

Paul Fairclough moves his 'office' to Lilleshall next week as he starts a week long advanced coaching course along with several League, Premiership players and managers. The Boro boss has been busy seeing players this week and will continue discussions with several next week.

Phil Wallace told Webnews ''We're so close to training starting that Paul can now simply invite prospective players to come down and see what we're about. We've got 19 senior players and he wants to make sure that the next 2 or 3 we sign are the right ones. A lot of players released on 30th June will start doing the rounds of trials in early July trying to stay in the League. Some will get contracts but many won't and we want to keep some of our playing budget back for a couple that may miss out.

Paul knows what he wants and we've got enough quality on board already to be patient. This is completely different from last year when Paul and Kevin had to work with the nucleus they inherited. Consequently we're all looking forward to a much more exciting season''
