Anne's Rose Garden - Two Part Harmony

<anne3> Once upon a time, Kathryn was reading a report, from Neelix, in her ready room. She was on page 47 with no end in sight. Her door chimed and Chakotay walked in.

<Dawn47> "You wanted another report, didn't you?" he asked, as he handed Kathryn a report.

<Captain_Crystal> She sighed thinking of the growing stack of them already on her desk. "Not really."

<Intala> Chakotay looked at the slumped shoulders of his captain.. A sure sign she'd already read too many of them. "Why don't I take a pile of these to my office?" he suggested.

<Phancy> "Why take the long walk to your office when you can take a short one to the couch and read them there?" she asked not even looking up from the PADD in her hand.

<anne3> "That sounds good." He set the PADDs down on the coffee table and took a detour to the replicator before sitting down.

<Dakota> "Is that for me?"
<Dakota> "No."
<Dakota> Kathryn stood and paced over to Chakotay.
<Dakota> "Are you sure about that?"
<Dakota> "I'm sure, Kathryn. Do you want one?"

<Dawn47> Kathryn sat down next to him, her nose inches away from his coffee. "But you don't like the stuff?"

<Captain_Crystal> "I'm told it's an acquired taste. I'm practicing acquiring it."

<Intala> Kathryn looked unbelieving at him. She was sure something must be wrong for him to act so totally out of character. She called his name softly, but he wouldn't look up to meet her eyes.

<Phancy> she walked to the replicator and was about to order her coffee when she heard Chakotay laugh
<Phancy> "You're getting soft, giving up to easily."

<anne3> Kathryn froze in mid-stride, a grin spreading across her face. "Can I get you something as long as I'm up?"
<anne3> "I wouldn't turn down some tea," he said.
<anne3> Kathryn shook her head after she sat down. "You're my first officer, aren't you supposed to protect me from things like this?" She shook the offending PADD at him.

<Dakota> Chakotay dodged the waving PADD. "I thought you wanted this coffee."
<Dakota> "I do."
<Dakota> "I told you it's mine."
<Dakota> "Why, you..."
<Dakota> "I have no objection to sharing it provided I get something in return."
<Dakota> "You can have this report from Neelix."
<Dakota> "I'll get that anyway."
<Dakota> Kathryn sighed. "All right. What do you want?"

<Intala> Kathryn was shocked. How in the world would she be able to spend an hour in her quarters... knowing that Chakotay was in her bathroom... in the tub... naked?
<Intala> Of course she could spend some time in the messhall. But then she'd have to deal with Neelix and tell him something about his lengthy report she just couldn't seem to get through.
<Intala> The holodecks again? She didn't think that Tom would be up to another round of losing pool tonight.
<Intala> What was she gonna do?

<Phancy> Chakotay watched her panic for a little while. He loved to get her all wound up like this. But he'd let her off this time. "I'd really like to use you tub I've taken up underwater basket weaving."

<anne3> Kathryn smacked his arm playfully and then picked up the coffee cup and took a long sip. She leaned back into the couch and sighed.
<anne3> "You really shouldn't tease me when I've spent the last hour with one of Neelix's epics."

<Dakota> "What makes you think I'm teasing?"
<Dakota> "You have a certain look in your eye when you're not telling the truth."
<Dakota> "Oh?"
<Dakota> Kathryn just stared at Chakotay for a moment, then waved the PADD at his head again.
<Dakota> "Did you see this report from Neelix?"
<Dakota> "I skimmed the beginning. Is there something wrong?"
<Dakota> "He wants to have another party."
<Dakota> "This isn't exactly the first time he's suggested that."
<Dakota> "Well, this one is a bit different."

<Captain_Crystal> "How so?"
<Captain_Crystal> "Here. Read it for yourself," she said tossing him the PADD.

<Phancy> Chakotay skimmed the PADD and couldn't help but smile.
<Phancy> It seemed that Neelix had been talking to Tom and Tom had told him about Karaoke. Neelix had been very interested in the idea and thought it would be great for morale.

<anne3> "You've read the singing part?" Kathryn asked.
<anne3> "Yes, it seems Neelix did a lot of research. Perhaps you should restrict his access to the historical database." Chakotay looked at her and winked.

<Dakota> "The historical database he accessed is tall, blond and answers to the name 'Helmboy'."
<Dakota> "I still don't see a problem. It's just singing."
<Dakota> "That's easy for you to say. You've got a decent singing voice."
<Dakota> Chakotay turned to look at Kathryn in surprise. "Now how do you know that?"
<Dakota> "I... I... used to listen to you singing in the shower back on New Earth."

<Captain_Crystal> "Oh really?"
<Captain_Crystal> "Maybe once or twice. It's no big deal, Chakotay."
<Captain_Crystal> "Well, I'm looking forward to this party. I want to hear you sing, Kathryn. And before you even try to protest, I won't let you out of it. The Captain is a member of the crew too."

<anne3> "I did my bit at the last 3 talent shows. As the captain it wouldn't be right for me to hog the spotlight." She took another sip of her coffee.

<Dakota> "You just don't want to sing. That's it, isn't it?"
<Dakota> Kathryn blushed. "I can't sing a note and you know it."
<Dakota> "I don't know it. I've never heard you sing."

<Captain_Crystal> "I wouldn't want to think that you were afraid to sing or anything"
<Captain_Crystal> "I'm not afraid to sing"
<Captain_Crystal> "Why won't you then?"
<Captain_Crystal> "I'm afraid of the Doctor when he comes screaming at me for destroying the crews hearing with my awful voice."

<anne3> "Ok, no singing then." He set the PADD down. "Now that that crisis is over, what's next on the agenda?"

<Dakota> Kathryn glared at Chakotay. "That was not a crisis."
<Dakota> "It sure felt like one to me. What's next on the agenda?"
<Dakota> Kathryn debated sending Chakotay to his room without his dinner but knew he would point out that it violated at least a dozen regulations. "Paris wants to run Sandrine's three nights a week."
<Dakota> "It's a popular program. If they crew gets bored with it, we can always cut back on it."
<Dakota> Kathryn's stomach rumbled followed quickly by a chuckle from Chakotay.
<Dakota> "I think we should head for the mess hall and discuss Sandrine's there." He stood and held out his arm. "Shall we?"

<Dakota> As they were finishing, they heard Neelix call out to Tom and the word karaoke. Chakotay watched Kathryn's face.
<Dakota> "You really are worried about having to sing, aren't you?"
<Dakota> Kathryn barely nodded.
<Dakota> Chakotay considered the situation. "You know. I still get the use of your tub for an hour."
<Dakota> "What?"
<Dakota> "I gave you my coffee in exchange, remember?"
<Dakota> "Yes." Kathryn answered warily.
<Dakota> "Well, you've heard me sing in the shower. Maybe if we shared the tub we could make beautiful music together."
<Dakota> Kathryn blushed as she met Chakotay's eyes. "You sing lead. I'll take harmony."
<Dakota> THE END
