| Anne
Marie Power is a well known mixed media artist, textile educator and
community artist who lives and works in Melbourne, Australia.Her
work incorporates textile techniques, papermaking, printmaking, applique,
collage, laser copy, drawing, painting and laminating.
She
has been involved in the art field for 30 years as a practising
artist and lecturer. She has travelled extensively, studying, presenting
and attending workshops and conferences in Europe, Canada, the USA
and Asia. She has exhibited in England, Italy, Russia, Canada, Austria,
China, Switzerland, South Korea and Australia
Power
is a trained art teacher who has been involved in the design and
delivery of a variety of artist-in-residence projects in primary,
secondary and tertiary institutions. She has also planned and overseen
numerous successful community art projects, working with adults
and children in a variety of settings.
From
May 30 - June 10, 2006 she exhibited "Wise
Reflections" at the Span Galleries 45
Flinders Lane Melbourne.
Here she reflected on the common imagery and philosophy of Buddha
and Christ, through an installation of embellished digital prints,
music, projected images, revolving mirrored shrines, flashing religious
icons, and holy souvenirs.
Long
recognised as a leading contemporary Australian installation and
textile artist, Anne Marie Power is notable for her fascination
with new materials and techniques, her international outlook and
her ironic sense of humour.
She
has the ability to bring unexpected materials and ideas together
in ways that are at the same time simple and sophisticated, joyful
and disturbing, worldly and contemplative, satirical and serious,
formal and chaotic.
Anne
Marie Power's extensive travels throughout Asia and Europe form
the basis of much of the work.

Collaborating
with Netherlands artist Inez Fritschy, they devised Global
Connection 3.3.03, a book form installation based on the contributions
of 150 individual artists from 23 countries. Exhibitions of this
took place in Geneva Switzerland and The Hague 2003,Santa Domingo
The Dominican Republic, Jeonju South Korea, and in Melbourne Australia
2004.
In
2002 she exhibited for the "Global
Fusions" exhibition at the Palais Porcia as well as artist
in residence at Papierwespe studio in Vienna. She was one of 9 women
artists representing Australia in Hangzhou China at the "Westlake
Expo" in an Exhibition - Nu Horizons. She also presented lectures
and workshops in Shanghai at Donghua Textile University.
The
Telos Portfolio Series
which specializes in International Textile Artists has published
a book on her work.
